Dr. Steven McMahon

I’m a born and bred New Yorker, and I have always been interested in insurance. My dad was an investigator for an insurance company and rose through the ranks to retire as one of the Vice Presidents of the company. We discussed insurance matters at the dinner table all the time, and I quickly learned just how confusing it was to a lot of people, even though it’s a very simple concept at its core.

In college, my main interests were math and science. I experienced a severe fall in my freshman year, which led me to a chiropractor for treatment. The results were incredible and I was soon able to perform all the tasks and functions I could before the fall. I was inspired and decided to go to chiropractic school.

After graduating, I immediately purchased malpractice and disability insurance. When I got married, I purchased a term life insurance policy, and I eventually bought a few whole life policies for myself, my wife, and my children.

 

I’ve owned a chiropractic practice in New York City for 30 years now, but I’ve always been interested in insurance. I enjoy more of the guarantees that Insurance provides than the protection from liabilities it offers, but both are important — especially in today’s climate. That brings us to 2020.

In the first half of the year, the COVID-19 pandemic hit America and I contracted it. While I was home quarantining, I started thinking about what I could do to help people if the virus didn’t go away as fast as we like.

As a chiropractor, I help my patients to improve their health and mobility every day. I realized if I became licensed to sell insurance, I could help more people with their financial health, too. 

Knowing a thing or two from my Dad, personal policies, and working with Insurance companies in my practice, I set out to get my Life, Accident, and Health insurance license. 

I was successful with my studies and am now licensed to sell various lines of insurance in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Now, I can help people in more ways than I set out to do 30 years ago.
